Electronic cigarette glossary
Analog (noun) – A regular, old-fashioned cigarette: (paper, tobacco, etc)
Atomizer (noun) – A device that heats liquids and turns them into a fine mist. For the electronic cigarette, it’s the part that heats the nicotine up and allows you to inhale it. Nicknames: atty.
Battery (noun) – A device that creates an electrical current. For the electronic cigarette, it’s the part that provides power to the atomizer.
Cartridge (noun) – For the electronic cigarette, it’s a container that holds a piece of filler soaked with liquid nicotine. Nicknames: cart.
Drip (verb) – To let drops of liquid nicotine fall directly on the atomizer, instead of using a cartridge.
E-Juice (noun) – Liquid used in the electronic cigarette. It may contain a combination of nicotine, flavorings, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, and water. Nicknames: juice, liquid.
Filler (noun) – Material used to soak up e-juice inside a cartridge.
Mini (noun) – A type of electronic cigarette that is slightly bigger than an analog cigarette.
Penstyle (noun) – A type of electronic cigarette that resembles a ballpoint pen.
Passthrough (noun) – A device that plugs into a powered USB port on one end and screws into an atomizer on the other. Lets smokers use their electronic cigarettes without a battery.
Primer (noun) – A liquid that manufactures use to protect the atomizers during shipment. It has an unpleasant taste.
Super-Mini (noun) – A type of electronic cigarette that closely resembles an analog cigarette in shape and size.
Throat Hit (noun) - The feeling of liquid nicotine hitting the back of the throat. With analog cigarettes, it’s that dry, hot, slightly burning feeling; with electronic cigarettes, throat hit is usually determined by the nicotine content and temperature of the atomizer.
Vapor (noun) - The “smoke” released by the electronic cigarette, created by the atomizer.
Vape (verb) – The act of inhaling the vapor from the electronic cigarette. It’s the electronic equivalent of “smoking” a cigarette.
